About The Book
As a writer, John is following my dreams because of a literal dream he had twelve years ago. During his sleep, John awakened to a world that simply can’t be translated into words. Obsessed by the visions of what he saw and the characters he met during the night as he slept, John began his debut novel, Moment Before Creation, which chronicles the journey of Ray—a young man from the mean streets of Chicago, who has a most unusual encounter with a talking Light. Part hustler, Ray is baffled by this mysterious Light that appears beneath his door after a long night of drinking and partying. At the coaxing of the Light, Ray opens his door and begins a profound dialogue with this nebulous presence—who commonly refers to the Protagonist as “King Ray.
By the end of their opening conversation, Ray accepts an invitation from The Light to visit the kingdom that Ray has long forgotten. The Light promises that this “supposed Kingdom” belongs to Ray. Struggling to make ends meet bagging groceries and selling drugs, the idea of owning his very own Kingdom is far too tempting to dismiss the talking Light entirely. So, in one fail swoop, Ray agrees to join the Light; and begins a most unusual passage beyond the boundaries of Earth time where he meets a singing butterfly, the Wind of Knowledge, Circles of Creation, Souly Roots, A Living River, and a Doctor who does not exist but does and does not simultaneously. Throughout this journey, Ray’s life is forever changed as he questions the greatest mysteries of the Universe and encounters in a most untraditional way—a host of “unique” characters who will guide him to the answers. Spirituality and urban living serve as a purposeful backdrop of the Moment Before Creation book, which is both “otherworldly” and deeply rooted in the saga of ghetto living.
